seemed to be the subject of the day!
Ma-maw told us about the 450 sandals she saw at Nordstrom's the other day!
We had italian for dinner - calzones, stromboli and 3 types of pizza (supreme, pepperoni and white). We love white pizza with sliced tomatoes. Our homemade white pizza is my favorite - hands down!
We even have stuffed shells prepared for tomorrow's meal.

How Quickly things can change
What a day! Something I was reminded of today was how quickly things can change. A friend is under a lot of pressure right now and being reminded who is in charge of it all. I have seen him trying to shift his focus. He is asking for His help, but still holding on to it too. It is incredible when I step back and look at this. It is almost like he has invisible weights on his shoulders from bearing this load. He still is trying to carry most of it himself. Today was a day that is bringing him to his making or breaking point. Help me pray for him and those around him that he will first of all - Let God work, second of all realize that he can distribute some of the work and that it is ok to accept help from those around him. These next few weeks need major prayer covering!

Busy Day
We were swamped at work - it's just that time of year. The orders are shipping and dates are quickly approaching which generates a ton of phone calls. Two school bids had to get out today, so finishing touches were added to complete the files. Chad was out sick today (it may be the flu! - please pray it is not passed around to us!!!) - which generated some extra tasks for all of us. The sequin shipment cleared customs - yay! Shipping instructions were figured and sent.
I had my teeth cleaned today - the best hygenist yet!
It is Ma-maw's birthday today! She said she had a nice daying today decorating for Christmas - We sure do love her - very, very much!

Another Kindness about to be executed
I am about to execute another random act of kindness and would like to know your opinion. I dug through all of my old correspondence and pulled out the letters from my childhood friend. She was my very best friend and moved away when she was in elementary school. Her parents divorced when she was young and her permanent residence was with her Mom in the south. I had the privilege of spending a lot of time with her in the summer when she came to stay with her Dad. During the year she was very good about writing to me. I dug out all the letters and postcards I could find from her and plan to make copies. It has some of her history and some of mine. I plan to send her a copy of each to take a trip down memory lane.
My question to you is this - if you were her - would you be happy with receiving a copy - or should I send her the originals?
Dad is having fun with his new computer - needs just a few more components and he will be good to go!
I colored my hair tonight - went back to my darker color for now.
Chuck shaved himself a goatie - it looks nice - but so different - no more little boys living here!
Becca made the coolest shirt - will try to post a picture soon - it is a galaxy inspired shirt - this girl has talent! She took a photo on line with little to no instructions - figured out how to create it and made a masterpiece!

Leftovers
We didn't do much today other than laundry. We spent the day at home doing a little cleaning and eating Thanksgiving leftovers. This is another wonderful thing about the holidays - you get to enjoy all that yummy food for a few more days!
Chuck worked and had a nice day.

Lunch with the Cousins
We started out the morning running a few errands for Dad. The kids and I then met with Aunt Collette, Lindsay, Jonathan, Benjamin and Bethany who is Lindsay's roommate for lunch at Chick-fil-a. It was nice to see Lindsay and allow the cousins to get together while she was home. I could kick myself for not taking a picture!
Becca and I stopped by Lifeway on the way home to grab a few of their Black Friday specials. I then went to close out my "fun money" checking account. They are changing their terms from free to monthly fees - and I don't want to pay them - so there you go - close it up!
We stopped by Fiesta closer to Chuck's work last week and they make fresh flour tortillas. I was going to pass a different Fiesta and needed a few things and was really craving some of that fresh yummy goodness. I was so bummed - the one where we stopped to shop did not offer fresh tortillas! Oh well - I treasure my weekend rompings with my Midge and the interesting little things we encounter - I know it won't be too many years and she will be off on her own! As we walked the entire store looking for anything close to that fresh warm flatbread we saw a few interesting things.

They sell live crab there if anyone is interested!
Have you ever heard of fairy tale squash? I have not - they were huge!
We didn't buy either of these - but did get some delicious coconut juice!

Happy Thanksgiving!
This year Dad decided it was going to be a stay at home Thanksgiving with just the five of us. It was not going to be the normal tradition, but rather, the every 3-5 year tradition of a Southwest - Tex-Mex Thanksgiving. We had a very nice day with a feast! We relaxed and watched the NCIS marathon.

Random Acts of Kindness Begins
Last year I saw a blog about a family that did random acts of Christmas kindness. I wanted to do it this year! This is our first act of kindness.
My co-worker and I decided to do something thoughtful for our employers as a sweet gesture for Thanksgiving. Our owners are a married couple and we wanted to do something for each of them.
Anne Marie made a sugar free, gluten free Pumpkin Pie for the Mrs.
I made an Oreo Cookie Bouquet for the Mr.
We hope it will make their day a little more special!

Feeble Folk seek Wise Shelter
"The conies are but a feeble folk,
yet make they their houses in the rocks."
Conscious of their own natural defencelessness, the conies resort to burrows in the rocks, and are secure from their enemies. My heart, be willing to gather a lesson from these feeble folk. Thou art as weak and as exposed to peril as the timid cony; be as wise to seek a shelter. My best security is within the munitions of an immutable Jehovah, where his unalterable promises stand like giant walls of rock. It will be well with thee, my heart, if thou canst always hide thyself in the bulwarks of his glorious attributes, all of which are guarantees of safety for those who put their trust in him. Blessed be the name of the Lord, I have so done, and have found myself like David in Adullam, safe from the cruelty of my enemy; I have not now to find out the blessedness of the man who puts his trust in the Lord, for long ago, when Satan and my sins pursued me, I fled to the cleft of the rock Christ Jesus, and in his riven side I found a delightful resting-place. My heart, run to him anew tonight, whatever thy present grief may be; Jesus feels for thee; Jesus consoles thee; Jesus will help thee. No monarch in his impregnable fortress is more secure than the cony in his rocky burrow. The master of ten thousand chariots is not one whit better protected than the little dweller in the mountain's cleft. In Jesus the weak are strong, and the defenceless safe; they could not be more strong if they were giants, or more safe if they were in heaven. Faith gives to men on earth the protection of the God of heaven. More they cannot need, and need not wish. The conies cannot build a castle, but they avail themselves of what is there already: I cannot make myself a refuge, but Jesus has provided it, his Father has given it, his Spirit has revealed it, and lo, again tonight I enter it, and am safe from every foe.

Rule of Thumb
Matthew 7 (The Message)
1 "Don't pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults - unless, of course, you want the same treatment. 2 That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. 3 It's easy to see a smudge on your neighbor's face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. 4 Do you have the nerve to say, 'Let me wash your face for you,' when your own face is distorted by contempt? 5 It's this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor. 6 "Don't be flip with the sacred. Banter and silliness give no honor to God. Don't reduce holy mysteries to slogans. In trying to be relevant, you're only being cute and inviting sacrilege. 7 "Don't bargain with God. Be direct. Ask for what you need. 8 This isn't a cat-and-mouse, hide-and-seek game we're in. 9 If your child asks for bread, do you trick him with sawdust? 10 If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? 11 As bad as you are, you wouldn't think of such a thing. You're at least decent to your own children. So don't you think the God who conceived you in love will be even better? 12 "Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them. Add up God's Law and Prophets and this is what you get. 13 "Don't look for shortcuts to God. The market is flooded with surefire, easygoing formulas for a successful life that can be practiced in your spare time. Don't fall for that stuff, even though crowds of people do. 14The way to life - to God! - is vigorous and requires total attention.

Judging Others
1 "Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when there is the log in your own eye? 5You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. 6 "Do not give dogs what is holy, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, lest they trample them underfoot and turn to attack you.Ask, and It Will Be Given
7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!The Golden Rule
12 "So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. 13 "Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.Sunday, November 18, 2012

Shopping for Thanksgiving
Aldi run in the morning
Unexpected visit - It was so nice to see my Janet! We only got about 15 minutes to chat - but I'm so glad she popped in for a visit. The timing was not the best - but it was so nice to spend a moment together. She is a good momma and granny and is now helping by keeping her great grandchildren. She loves them all very much - praying that she is a blessing to those little babies and has the strength to keep on watching them for a good while!
Dropped Chuck off then...
India Bazaar - very interesting - they have an aisle full of flours of every sort!
Fiesta - yum - hot fresh tortillas!
Walmart - we could have submitted a few photos for the people of walmart emails that go around ;0)
helped Becca color her hair

Close Calls
We were on our way home tonight and ended up in a very scary situation. We were heading down the highway and coming up to one of the interchanges. The car in front of us had his signal on and was slowing down. I slowed as I approached him and wondered why he wasn't merging to the right. He slowed more and more and then came to a complete stop in the middle of the highway. There we were, sitting right behind him at a dead stop in the middle lane of the freeway. A normal drive home suddenly became a little bit freaky. I quickly put my hazards on as I checked my rearview mirror. It seemed like hundreds of headlights headed in our direction. The car shook as the vehicles sped around us, some coming in our lane and making that lane change - seemingly at the last second, but I'm sure was well in advance. Thank the Lord, I was back far enough from the stalled car to pull out and get moving again. We prayed for the passengers in that vehicle for safety and protection.
This situation allowed us to talk with the kids about some driving safety. The best and most ideal solution is to get off the highway if you know your car is dying. If you know your car is about to quit get to a parking lot if possible, if that is impossible, try for the shoulder of the highway. If for some reason you get stuck in the middle lane of the highway, turn on your hazards, call 911, and pray without ceasing! I'm not sure if this person ran out of gas or if it was a mechanical issue. As far as the gas goes - make 1/4 tank your empty and you will not run out!

Change of Plans
Breakfast today instead with Collette, Tracey and Mother
We had a nice surprise when I paid the electric bill - it was about 30 less than expected. I love it when the Lord blesses us unexpectedly. It was just another little added help with this week's transmission expense.

All Shook Up
A coworker witnessed a robbery take place across the street today. Two men broke into a house and stole a tv and possibly more. It shook her up a bit. Hopefully our fast acting police force will catch them and the people will get their property returned unharmed.
This situation reminded me of something that happened years ago. Charles, Chuck and I decided that our southern style potatoes sounded good for dinner. I started pulling the ingredients together and realized that I was missing just one ingredient, the cream of chicken soup. I put on my shoes and ran across the street to the little convenience store to grab the soup. Chuck was just a little tot, about 3½ years old at the time. He and Charles stayed at the house to continue their Super Mario competition. As I rounded the corner a young man was walking toward me to enter the door of the store. I didn't really pay attention to him as we walked in together. I headed straight to the aisle where they kept the small supply of grocery items. I was focused on finding that soup and getting back to the house and wasn't really paying attention to the others in the store. My concentration was broken when I realized someone was yelling. As I turned toward the counter I saw the young man who entered the store with me, holding a gun and yelling at everyone in the store. It was as if time stood still and all noises became distorted. He was holding up the store and telling everyone to go to the back and get in the bathroom. It felt like I stood there forever before my legs would cooperate taking me to that small, crowded room. My larger than usual tummy brushed the shelf as I turned for you see, my sweet little angel was growing inside of me. I was in the last term of pregnancy with my precious Becca. Several people squeezed into the tiny space. There was a young boy, probably 8-10 years old, I remember him standing there so strong. He didn't seem scared at all. It made me wonder what things he had witnessed in his few years on this earth. The next person was a young man in his late teens or early twenties. He had a look of concern on his face and seemed a little bit anxious. I bet he was going over different scenarios in his head, trying to determine whether he should try to act to prevent this or just be still and wait. That seemed to be his struggle. The next person was an older gentleman, my guess is he was in his 60's. He was calm and patient as we waited. I can't recall if there were more in the room with us - but that brings me to me. I stood there looking at each of the faces in the room that day with tears streaming down my face. I can't tell you now all the thoughts that went through my mind in those few minutes that seemed like an eternity. I know I prayed. I prayed that I would not die that day. I wanted to have my Becca and hold her close, I wanted to return to my wonderful husband, and sweet young toddler who were just across the street laughing and playing with no idea what was going on just a few hundred feet away. I wanted to live and wanted those in that small room to live too. We heard a young lady call to us and ask if we were ok. It was the wife of the young man standing beside me. They hugged and cried and were so thankful to be in each others arms unharmed. We all looked at each other in a daze, in shock and hardly believing what had just occured. Praise the Lord, no one was harmed. The police arrived soon after and took our statements. They believed it to be a gang initiation. The burglar had only taken a few cigarettes and lottery tickets. He dropped several bullets on the floor, maybe from his lack of experience with his gun, or from the rush of getting in and out of the store. As soon as the officer took my statement, I headed home to the open arms of my two men. They could hardly believe what I told them and were like me - so extremely grateful that the Lord protected me and our sweet little angel - Becca Jean!

Mean what you say!
There are days that I know exactly what to write and other days I have no clue. This evening, I was reflecting back over my day and it was pretty uneventful (which is perfectly fine), hmm, what can I write about tonight.!? My favorite posts are about the family, especially sweet, fun and special memories that we will treasure in later years. The other posts that I love are when the Lord lays a Biblical application to a practical moment in life. It often seems to be an area I can improve upon and this little story is no different! :0/ It looks like I have my life application from James 5:12 this Wednesday night as we share about our recent study.
I mentioned to you a few days ago that Becca and I went to a Mary Kay facial party. Well, this sales lady was very good. I really liked her, she was very energetic and personable. She had a bold personality and seemed to be the type that controls her audience. She fit right in with our group, but when it came to her business, she was subtly forceful. Sales are definitely her niche. For instance, she set up this party by saying, "I want to give you a make-over for all of your help, and feel free to invite some friends, it will be a fun girls day out." Well, of course that sounds fun doesn't it? It sounds much less appealing to ask - would you like to have a M.K. party? (I'm sure Annie knew exactly what to expect from the makeover, but the presentation was alluring). After we finished the facials, she met with each of us alone to go over our orders and to schedule our "follow up visits." The follow up visit was basically booking a party with each of us. It was just a slick method and almost a demanded party without demanding it, if you understand what I mean.
Have you ever been in one of those situations where you end up committing to something either you didn't realize you were committing to, or didn't really want to commit to? I know there has been more than one time in my life, when my head was spinning after I realized what just happened. As we talked, I offered a tentative date for my "follow up visit", I mean party. It's not that I never want to have one, they are fun and who doesn't love these products. I almost felt tricked into scheduling that possible date. She definitely commanded this time at the party, wording the followup visit in such a way that you were almost felt required to comply. Satan works this way. He will dangle enticing things in front of us, make it sound fun and rewarding, and wham - next thing you know your head is just spinning. We are wondering why we did what we did or committed to something that we do not want to do. To be perfectly honest, I really wanted to tell her no, but didn't want to hurt her feelings, and didn't want to explain my no. I gave her a wishy washy yes, pretty much knowing - at least for now - it was a NO.
The sad thing is, we had an entire day of study devoted to this verse...
James 512 And above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath. But let your “Yes” be yes and your “No” be no, so that you may not fall into judgment.
We need to be people that say what we mean, and mean what we say! The Lord takes vows and oaths very seriously. I did not vow, swear or make an oath, I left it tentative but should have been brave enough to just say no. I know I need to pray that the Lord will always be my words, especially when it comes to commitments. Our word should mean something and people should know what you say you will do.
I emailed her today and told her that I was not ready to get together yet - it will need to wait until after the holidays. I will meet up with her for a "follow up", because I want my yes to be yes. ;0)

I will meet up with her for a "follow up", because I want my yes to be yes. ;0)

Year No. 2
Can you believe it has been a year that I have been blogging!?! It was Veteran's Day last year when my plans began to start consistently writing. I hope to continue - it will be fun to look back on this one day.
Charles finished the bulk of his computer this weekend - he has enjoyed building and tweaking it. It needs a few more parts and pieces, but it is fully functional. He is really enjoying this project and is learning all kinds of new things. I would try to tell you the details, but to be quite frank, it is a little over my head. Doesn't it look cool - I love the red lit fans!

Of course I needed her picture for the blog anniversary! Happy Veteran's Day! We thank you for your service in protecting us and our America! |

Facial Fun
Becca and I had so much fun with Anne Marie and Melissa. Anne Marie made a delicious breakfast spread and we had a Mary Kay makeover.
We got the verdict on Chuck's truck - new transmission is required.
It should be up and running soon - yay!
Charles is having a blast building and testing his computer!

Jumping Jehoshaphat
Distraction from the chaos that day in FL
The kids were going crazy picking at each other in the car one day. I believe we were headed home from football practice. They had me so frustrated with their pick, pick, picking, that I just hollered out - Jumping Jehoooshaaphat, would you please stop fighting! They were so shocked at the words I said, and then it was an immediate burst of laughter from all of us. The fighting stopped, and the laughter began!
I was reminded of this little episode as I was driving out ot pick up Chuck. I was listening to Chip Ingram on the radio and he was talking about King Jehoshaphat.
2 Chronicles 20 king of Judah
Jehoshaphat's prayer
Psalm 145
Anecdote for doubt is praise
App called adoration

Don't forget to Thank Him
One of my friends texted me today. She has been going through some rough patches in life. The recent hurdles have been her health, her car and her finances. Her text started with...God did bless me (with her doctor visit), it also said, Thank you Jesus! She asked for more prayer for her car. As I read it, and reread it I thanked God for answering these prayers, for my friend and for her belief and trust in Him. She gave Him the PRAISE and was ASKING for more prayer backing because she KNOWS that He will work this out, she TRUSTS Him and BELIEVES He will take care of her needs!
As I prayed I realized, the recent events of the country. We are obviously split right down the middle. Some people are rejoicing at the victory, while others are discouraged from the defeat. The Lord reminded me as I read her text, that I have not thanked HIM for the results. He answered our prayers, it was just not with the answer we wanted; but was a clear answer of no! I thanked Him for His answer and thanked Him for being in control of it all. I trust Him and know that He knows what is to come and will not give us more than we can handle. Whether this event will bring our homecoming closer or whether it creates a revival of our brothers, we know we win in the end!
Our recent study has been in James, these are the verses that came to mind. If we will face trials through this, remember: James 1:
2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
It was Chuck's day off today and he was falling asleep on the couch this evening - his sweet little sister had a brilliant idea. She woke him up with the can of air. He took it well ;o) It gave a us a laugh for the evening!

The Results
It stinks being on the losing team - especially in a close game.
What do we do now...continue to pray...
“ First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2 ESV

Election Day
It seems to me that people are more anxious about this vote than others in the past.
We have voted and prayed - we will now wait and see the results.

Lunch and Games
We had a nice lunch with the family at Tim's house - enough food for an army. We had ham, potato salad, sweet potatoes, deviled eggs, corn, broccoli and cheese, rolls, and b-bque chicken. Dessert included a lemon pie, apple pie, assorted cheesecakes, lemon cake and cinnamon roll from pie dough.
Everything was delicious.
Gramma and Kim tried something with the potatoes and said it worked great -
score the potatoes all the way around the middle
boil them whole
drain them when done
put them in an ice bath (cold water and ice)
the skin peels right off
Kim also fried up the sweet potatoes and they were delicious
She sliced them
fried them in butter
when they started to get soft top them with sugar and a little more butter
fry to desired tenderness and enjoy
We played a game of Canasta after lunch. Gramma and Kim took the lead, then Chuck and Matthew quickly caught up. Misti and I were dead last. Chuck and Matthew won the game!
Football and racing were Grampa and Uncle Tim's entertainment for the day - and Becca played a video game.
We sure are glad that Gramma and Grampa came for a visit!

Full Day for All
Uncle Tim came over to diagnose the Chuck truck situation, one thing is a blown heater hose. He did a few other things and seems to be some sort of issue with the transmission - we will get this checked on Monday.
He and Grampa hung out today.
Gramma, Becca, Misti and I took Chuck to work. We then spent a few hours shopping and had a bite at Chili's. None of us bought to much - but we had fun. We then went over to Misti's and had a cup of coffee with our conversation.
Charles spent the day researching and working on the computer build. It is fun to see his eyes light up when he talks about it.
After I got Chuck we swung into Wally World to buy somethings for lunch tomorrow along with a few Christmas presents. I can hardly believe it is that time of year again.

Eventful Day
It was a long day today - Chuck's car broke down on his way to work. Today is a day I'm glad we have AAA. He got it back to the house and then I took him to work. Becca and I headed over to see Gramma and Grampa for a visit. It is always fun to spend time with them.
We headed out to get Chuck and he got out very late.
We are thankful for God's provision, grace, mercy and blessings today!
